VA-Sen: Sen. Mark Warner (D) Calls For A Special ACA Enrollment Period During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Mark Warner’s (D. VA) re-election campaign:

Our nation is facing a challenging time. Beyond the immediate health threat of the virus itself, we’re seeing people grapple with another challenge: access to health care.

A record number of Americans filed for unemployment last week, and we could see tens of millions of Americans lose their jobs before social distancing measures end. Short term stimulus measures are a good first step to easing the financial burden of unemployment, but we need to address the health implications as well.

It boils down to this: people are losing access to health care, and we need to act quickly to make sure that everyone has access to the care they need.

The Trump administration said they were considering a special ACA enrollment period to allow everyone access to care, but ultimately did not move forward. That’s simply not good enough for folks who just lost their health insurance. During a global pandemic, we can’t afford to deny people a clear path to vital health care coverage.

Sign our petition if you agree that we need a special ACA enrollment session in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

Eleven states and the District of Columbia are already moving forward with their own plans for special health insurance enrollment periods to cover their citizens, but we need a nationwide enrollment period to ensure that everyone has the care they need during this difficult time. We need a nationwide ACA special enrollment period.

Protecting the health and safety of Virginians and all Americans has always been a top priority for Mark. In this uncertain time, that means fighting for immediate relief through stimulus packages and for the long-term health of our country by ensuring people have access to health insurance. He won’t give up the fight — does he have your support?

Thank you,

— Team Warner
