“Donald Trump may be a rat, but I have no desire to copulate with him.”

That title is a direct quote from Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, responding to allegations of marital infidelity. Now, I don’t know whether the claims by the National Enquirer are true. For that matter, I don’t know whether I would care if they were true. Consenting adults, and all that. And, in general, I think our media focuses too much on tawdry scandalmongering and too little on actually being stewards of the issues.

But, still, that quote. I presume this was an effort to call the Enquirer story “ratfucking” gone … terribly, terribly wrong. I’m certain that Cruz didn’t want to suggest that he would, in fact, “copulate” with a non-Trump rat.

Once upon a time, even Republican politicians were capable of consistently stringing words together in a way that makes sense. This is just another data point in the mound of evidence that the 2016 Republican crew is far from ready for prime-time, another example of just how far from the “City on a Hill” they have fallen.
