NC-09: Climate Hawks Vote Goes All In To Help Dan McCready (D) Win His New Election

Finally, climate hawk Dan McCready gets an election do-over in North Carolina’s Ninth District. Justice finally has been done after Republican Mark Harris finally admitted that a new election was needed in a trial that could have provided House of Cards and Scandal with a couple of episodes.

The new primary will be May 14, and the general election September 10. Filing begins next week, but we already know that Dan will be running.

Can you get Dan’s long-awaited election do-over off with a bang and a contribution?

We have no idea who Dan McCready will face. Harris won’t run — he’s instead thrown his support behind Stony Rushing, whose colorful legal history includes dating a local Republican woman and then filing (and losing) a lawsuit against her attempting to portray her as a psycho stalker. (I really, really wish I was making that up.) Another candidate is Dan Bishop, author of the infamous bathroom bill.

We do know that the race will be nationalized. The special election will be a test of both parties’ messaging pre-2020 in a unique district: some city suburbs, some socially conservative rural counties, a strong pro-solar candidate with deep ties to his community. At Climate Hawks Vote, we want to be part of the national conversation.
