20 Years An Expat “I just don't get it anymore”

It has been longer than that if you include my school years [St George’s Edinburgh, it would be 26] but 20 years a full time expat split between the UK and France, so over half my life.

The reason I bring this up?

I think that it is really this election cycle that has driven it home, I’m now a “foreigner” it seems and I am just looking at the Democratic Party Primary which reminds me of a Conservative Party v Labour Party contest in the UK in terms of policies proposed.

Then we move over to the Republican Party fiasco and I am totally lost as to where that party has gone, a coalition of extremist right wing fringe groups has taken it over. A party driven by the spoilt brats of “white privilege” [in the main] who only perception of the world is that not enough of it is as spiteful as they are, hell some of the “others”even have the temerity to claim rights of their own, in fact this circus reminds me of a quote:

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.

Friedrich Nietzsche

When I hear arguments saying that universal or single payer health care would be too expensive yet already the US has the most expensive health care system in the world without the equivalent performances; 37th  and with about 13% still with no health insurance cover whatsoever. This argument is coming from the “left” hand side of the aisle?

I really just don’t get it.

When money in politics is of epic proportions some on our side of the aisle fail to note why that it is the case, it is to buy influence, nothing more, nothing less, it obviously corrupts the democratic process. Yet every mention of campaign finance reform dies a death even before engaging the right hand side of the aisle in the debate. Every successive government has benefited the richest disproportionately yet some will claim “it has no influence on them”, bullshit I say.

I really just don’t get it.

When I see segregation in the education system by means of income and location and the support of charter schools rather than public education.

I really just don’t get it.

When I look at the lead poisoning scandal in Flint I am afraid all I see is that this is the logical result of the state of governance today: the methane leak [with associated benzene] in California another. One would have thought that Hurricane Katrina was enough.

I really just don’t get it.

When thugs with guns annex public lands and are handled with respect because they are white.

When children are massacred on an almost daily basis with guns nothing is done about it.

I just don’t get it.

I was accused of being Un-American during the build ups to our senseless wars [past and present], perhaps I am.

I am on the outside looking in

I just don’t get it anymore.
