Recently in the aftermath of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, the US ordered the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier strike group to sail near Taiwan and conduct transit operation through Taiwan straight. I would like to know how the transit operation will be conducted. More specifically, which of the following two scenarios will take place?

  1. The strike group, especially the aircraft carrier itself, will stand by near the straight and send one or two warships, other than the aircraft carrier itself, to sail through the strait.

  2. The whole strike group will pass through the Taiwan strait. The strait is narrow with a minimal width of 130 km compared to the strike range of an air craft carrier. The transit would put the aircraft carrier within the range and under the threat of land based anti ship missiles on the Chinese coast.
