Joe Biden’s lead over Donald Trump has grown to 10%, according numbers released today in a Yahoo News/YouGov poll and news story. Biden now leads 49% to 39% over Trump in the survey taken September 9-11. In the previous poll for Yahoo News released August 29, Biden’s lead was 47% to 41%. (YouGov has five other polls for other organizations in the meantime showing leads of 7% to 11%.)
Revelations about Trump’s comments calling US war dead “suckers and Losers” as well as Bob Woodward’s book and interview tapes where Trump admits to lying about the seriousness of the pandemic are major catalysts for the improving numbers for Biden.
Asked if their opinion of Trump’s coronavirus response has changed because of Woodward’s big scoop — a tape of Trump privately acknowledging the virus was “deadly stuff” even as he publicly sought, in his own words, “to play it down”— nearly a quarter of Americans (23 percent) say yes. Even 15 percent of those who voted for Trump in 2016 say the Woodward news has changed their mind about the president’s handling of the pandemic.
According to the story in Yahoo News, only 1% of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 voters are planning to vote for Trump but 8% of Trump’s 2016 supporters are planning to vote for Biden.
Website 538 rates YouGov as a “B” pollster.
