This was a historic week for Medicare For All (MFA). Monday, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) joined with our MFA coalition allies in a massive demonstration at the D.C. offices of PhRMA—the trade association for Big Pharma, the industry responsible for keeping prices for medication sky high, and also a main funder of anti-Medicare For All propaganda.
Tuesday, we watched the riveting first-ever Congressional hearings on MFA in the House Rules Committee featuring our advisory board members Rep. Jim McGovern (the committee chair), and Rep. Jamie Raskin (one of PDA’s original cofounders). Jamie offered heartfelt testimony of his own personal healthcare struggles. Also last week, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released findings showing MFA is affordable and practical.

Last month, Trump vetoed a joint congressional resolution that would end U.S. support for Saudi war crimes in Yemen. The resolution was authored by Senator Bernie Sanders in the Senate and Representative Ro Khanna in the House. PDA supported this effort to reassert Congressional constitutional authority over war and peace, and especially to end the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
