Vaccinations Are Averaging More Than 2 Million a Day as Many States Widen Eligibility

More than 110 million Covid-19 vaccinations have taken place in the United States, of which about 90 million happened after Joe Biden took office. The 100 million vaccination pledge will be reached about March 20.
Alaska and Mississippi are the first two states to widen eligibility to all adult residents. But many states are expanding the list of those who may be vaccinated.
On Tuesday, Mississippi is following Alaska's lead and becoming the second state to open vaccination appointments to all residents 16 years and older, Gov. Tate Reeves said Monday.
Reluctance to be vaccinated extends to the Halls of Congress as 25% of the US House has evidently not been vaccinated for Covid-19.
Between the lines: The other 25% of members have either refused to get the vaccine, have not reported getting it at home or are avoiding it because of medical conditions. Until the Office of Attending Physician is clear about this, it can't make recommendations “regarding the modification or relaxation of existing social distancing guidelines.”
European vaccinations are in something of a mess as some nations are having to lock down again. The AstraZenaca vaccine (not yet approved in the US) is being put on hold in many countries, since there have been reports of blood clots. NPR radio has been running a news spot that points out that of the 17 million vaccinated with AstraZenca doses, only 37 have experienced the clotting, a percentage that might be similar to the those who did not get the vaccine. Hopefully, the questions will be quickly resolved.
A third wave of the Covid pandemic is now advancing swiftly across much of Europe. As a result, many nations – bogged down by sluggish vaccination campaigns – are witnessing sharp rises in infection rates and numbers of cases.
