US Vaccinations Exceed 202 Million
Vaccinations for Covid-19 in the US reached 202.3 million yesterday, according to the CDC. Since 20 million vaccinations occurred under Trump, Joe Biden’s goal of 200 million vaccinations in his first 100 days should be reached about April 21 or nine days early.
As of yesterday, 38.5% of the total US population has received at least one does of vaccine. Some 49.1% of all American adults have received at least one shot. The percentage of senior Americans who have gotten a jab has risen to an impressive 80.4% and is still rising, though a little more slowly now.
The pause in the use of Johnson and Johnson vaccine seems to be having only a mild affect on the number of people getting shots. Some states and regions are still getting more phials than they have people who want to be injected.
Fauci Says J&J Vaccinations Will Be Back on Track Soon
Top U.S. infectious diseases expert Anthony Fauci believes Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine will get 'back on track' soon after reports of rare blood clotting prompted U.S. regulators to pause its use this week.
His comments come a day after advisers to the CDC delayed a vote on resuming the J&J shots, until it had more data on the risk.
Fauci told Reuters Thursday the pause is a good sign that U.S. regulators take safety seriously, but urged them to make a decision on the vaccine soon.
Asthma Drug May Help Covid-19 Patients
An inhaled steroid commonly used to treat asthma can help keep patients with mild COVID-19 from getting sicker, according to results from a trial published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. Within a week of developing symptoms, 73 patients were randomly assigned to receive inhaled budesonide twice a day, and another 73 were assigned to receive only usual care…Ultimately, 15% of patients receiving usual care needed an urgent-care visit or hospitalization, compared to only 3% of those treated with budesonide. Patients who got budesonide also had fewer days with fever, fewer days of taking medicines to prevent fever, and recovered on average one day faster.
