Received this e-mail this week from former presidential candidate, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. MA), in support of MJ Hegar’s (D. TX) U.S. Senate campaign:
I’ve been fighting to root out corruption and put power in the hands of the people — where it belongs — not in the hands of giant corporations and special interests.
That’s MJ’s fight, too. Like me, she hasn’t spent her whole career in politics trying to please big donors to fund campaign after campaign — in fact, she only decided to run for office after she was shut out of the process by her own representatives because she wasn't writing them big campaign checks.
MJ knows that when something doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in Washington, all you have to do is follow the money. Her opponent has taken millions of dollars from the special interests — like the gun lobby, Big Pharma, and the insurance industry — while refusing to support policies that the majority of Texans and Americans believe in, like common-sense gun safety measures.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It is NOT enough to win the White House in 2020. With Mitch McConnell as majority leader, we can kiss goodbye any hope of taking action on climate change, expanding health care coverage, or reforming our immigration system. Those bills would pass the House, but his desk would be their legislative graveyard.
