Received this e-mail today from former presidential candidate, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D. IN), in support of MJ Hegar’s (D. TX) U.S. Senate campaign:
There is so much at stake this November. I said it on the campaign trail, and I’ll say it again now: In order to make change in this country, we can’t just focus on the White House — we need to flip the Senate in order to win the era.
It only takes four seats to win back the Senate and break Mitch McConnell’s stranglehold on progress. Texas is the biggest battleground state in this election, and MJ Hegar can win it.
A lot of career politicians like Sen. Cornyn treat service as just another word for politics as usual, one partisan press release or Capitol Hill meeting at a time. But MJ and I have both served our country in uniform, and she knows that there’s a different spirit of public service that we need much more of in Washington. It means putting country over politics and always upholding the oath we took to support and defend our Constitution — no matter what.
Politicians like Mitch McConnell and his right-hand man Sen. Cornyn have made it absolutely clear they’re not willing to put the well-being of our country and our people over their political agendas.
I believe there’s a better way forward, and that’s why I believe in MJ. I’m asking you to join me today in supporting her. Will you pitch in right now to elect MJ and help flip the Senate this November?
One more critical thing: Control of the Senate won’t be the only outcome of this election here in Texas. If we don’t flip the Senate, we will lose the Supreme Court for decades to come with more justices like Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch.
We cannot let that happen. That’s why MJ and I are counting on you.
Thanks for helping, and I’m wishing you and your loved ones well.
