Trump's DOJ Spied on House Intelligence Committee Democrats [Update w/ Schiff Call to Investigate]

Just broke by the New York Times and picked up by Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow:

Hunting Leaks, Trump Officials Focused on Democrats in Congress

As the Justice Department investigated who was behind leaks of classified information early in the Trump administration, it took a highly unusual step: Prosecutors subpoenaed Apple for data from the accounts of at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, aides and family members. One was a minor.

Rachel had Adam Schiff on her program, on short notice. He was, in his quiet way, livid at this latest breach of government norms, called it an abuse of power, and wondered what Merrick Garland is doing about it all. Neither he nor Michael Schmidt, one of the reporters who broke the story, could say whether any  Republican Congresspeople or staff were investigated.

But we do know that Trump had targeted Adam Schiff from the day he took office.

We also know that under Sessions, the investigation petered out and prosecutors wanted to close it. Then Bill Barr came along and revived it.

William P. Barr revived languishing leak investigations after he became attorney general a year later. He moved a trusted prosecutor from New Jersey with little relevant experience to the main Justice Department to work on the Schiff-related case and about a half-dozen others, according to three people with knowledge of his work who did not want to be identified discussing federal investigations.

Schiff sent out this tweet a little while ago:

Can we impeach Trump a  third time? How about criminal abuse of office? How about Barr?
