Trump won't host the G-7 at Doral because of “Irrational” criticism of self-dealing

BWAHAHAHAHA
Darn, another line of the articles of impeachment removed.
Mr. Trump added: “Therefore, based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020.”
Breaking News: President Trump said he would no longer hold the next G7 summit at Trump National Doral, his luxury golf club near Miami, citing what he called “irrational” criticism https://t.co/dfu199JyvB

Trump came under heavy criticism for essentially awarding himself a contract for a major diplomatic event, and drew the ire of ethics lawyers and Democrats who said the choice could violate the emoluments clause of the Constitution, which forbids accepting gifts and funding from foreign governments.
If it’s held at Camp David, Trump will probably play golf with Abe at the Trump course in VA, to great fanfare.
So Mulvaney holds a press briefing – defiantly announces that Trump’s Doral resort will host G-7 and answers questions about Ukraine by acknowledging the WH sought to withhold military aid in exchange for an investigation into their political foe. Then WH walks back both comments

PREDICTION: At the 2020 G7 summit, Trump will claim that every world leader came up to him with tears in their eyes and said "Sir, I was really looking forward to attending this event at Trump Doral, which would've been so much better than this dump."

It's hard to over-hype how terrified you should be about the free fall of American global credibility right now.
The Doral disaster, Ukraine quid pro quo, double cross of the Kurds, the Afghan/Camp David debacle.
It's just one mind-blowing, embarrassing fiasco after another.

An Italian once told me that what it took to bring down Berlusconi was corruption so obvious a grade schooler knew it was wrong… https://t.co/3uTNggjqB4

Trump’s reversal shows that pressure works, that those fighting to hold the line for ethical government can sometimes dial down his corruption. He deserves no plaudits for doing the right thing only after public outcry forced him not to do the wrong thing. https://t.co/1lmXfJIQgh

18 USC §208(a) makes it a federal crime for an officer or employee of the executive branch to participate personally and substantially in awarding a government contract in which he has a financial interest.
