Trump Wants Giuliani and Dershowitz as His Defenders

It’s pretty much a given now that sometime between Monday and Wednesday, the House will pass and send to the Senate an article of impeachment against the Malignant Mangoturd. This fact seems to have penetrated Trump’s fantasy world, because he is already considering who should be on his defense team. One member of Trump’s first defense team, Alan Dershowitz, has already said he would rush to do it a second time; this time he’s talking a First Amendment defense. Another, it seems, could be Leaky Rudi, the star of parking lot press conferences and a likely candidate himself for a sedition charge after calling for “trial by combat” at the Wednesday rally that led to combat.

Trump considering Giuliani and Dershowitz for impeachment defense team

President Donald Trump is considering having Rudy Giuliani and Alan Dershowitz defend him if he faces another impeachment trial, two sources familiar with the matter said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday Democrats are prepared to move forward with impeachment next week if Trump doesn't resign, and Trump is beginning to mull who would represent him in a Senate trial.
Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, is expected to represent him, the sources said, and Trump is also considering hiring Dershowitz, a controversial attorney.

None of the other original lawyers seem willing to do a repeat:

While the President's impeachment defense team is only just coming into view, it is becoming increasingly clear that the primary members of the team during his first impeachment would be unlikely to join.
Constitutional attorney Jay Sekulow, White House counsel Pat Cipollone and attorney Jane Raskin are not expected to be involved for a second impeachment trial. Cipollone is said to have considered resigning in recent days.

I’m not sure Cipollone could look Adam Schiff — sure to be one of the House managers — in the eye a second time. And the others clearly have no stomach for defending sedition. But one has to wonder what Giuliani will be thinking as he goes up the hill that just last week he was urging an armed mob to take by storm. Does he think that Trump would hesitate to call on his mob to do a repeat during his trial? Or does he plan to step outside the Senate chamber and let them in?
