LBJ once said that when he lost Walter Cronkite, he lost America. Well, Trump is no LBJ and Robertson is certainly no Uncle Walter. But today, at least for moment, Trump lost Robertson.

‘It isn’t cool’: Televangelist Pat Robertson blasts Trump for his protest response

Televangelist Pat Robertson criticized President Trump on Tuesday for his “law and order” response to the nationwide unrest following the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
The television personality and onetime GOP presidential candidate has been generally supportive of the president during his administration, but he blasted the president’s approach to the protests in his opening remarks of his television show, “The 700 Club,” on Tuesday.
“It seems like now is the time to say, ‘I understand your pain, I want to comfort you, I think it’s time we love each other,’ ” Robertson said. “But the president took a different course. He said, ‘I am the president of law and order,’ and he issued a heads-up.”

Let me be crystal clear: Robertson is a pimple on the ass of Jesus, a cheap huckster who makes millions off his conman posture as a “man of God.” He has made life miserable for women and LGBTQ+ and just about anybody who wants to think for themselves. He backed Trump and helped deliver the evangelical vote. He has well earned his place in several circles in hell.

Still, he did say this:

“[The president] said, 'I'm ready to send in military troops if the nation's governors don't act to quell the violence that has rocked American cities.' In a matter of fact, he spoke of [the governors] as being jerks,” Robertson said. “You just don't do that, Mr. President. It isn't cool!”

OK, he’s a rat, a huge rat. But when this rat starts looking over the rail of the SS Trump, we should all be ready to see him jump. Robertson is still a big name in evangelical circles, and anything he says in criticism of Trump will have an impact there. May not be much, given how gleefully they’re swallowing the Clorox, but every little bit counts.

This may be just a momentary attack on conscience, and Robertson may be persuaded to lie down until it passes. But it’s out there and it’s another round of ammunition we can fire at the Bunker B!tch. (Sorry for the sexist language, but in Trump’s case, it fits.)
