Trump lies about Democrats removing God from the Pledge of Allegiance

First of all, I don’t believe in God, so for me it would be meaningless to say our country is in some sense “under” Him. (I’m actually sorta-kinda Buddhist/agnostic. I’ve also kind of worshiped Julie Newmar for the past 45 years or so. But that’s not important right now, and it’s probably best if I don’t elaborate too much.)

Secondly, the words “under God” were not originally in the Pledge of Allegiance, so taking the phrase out honors the author’s original intentions more than including it does.

Thirdly, Donald Trump is a leaky Craigslist waterbed full of oak-aged orangutan shit. Who lies. A lot.

And as we all know, if Donald Trump tweets it, it must be a lie.

PolitiFact:

“The DNC omitted ‘one nation under God’ from the Pledge of Allegiance,” said Peggy Hubbard, who lost Illinois’ Republican primary election in March, in an Aug. 20 Facebook post.

Hubbard’s post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.) It’s similar to other claims we’ve seen on Facebook, so we wanted to check it out.

Some Democratic caucus members omitted “one nation under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance during DNC meetings. But the line was not excluded from any of the convention’s primetime televised spots.

On the first night of the DNC, participants sang the “Star-Spangled Banner” instead of saying the Pledge of Allegiance. On the second, third and fourth nights, “under God” was included in the pledge.

Again, I’m not sure why we’re all saying “under God” when so many of us don’t believe God has anything to do with our country or our freedoms. But, you know, the truth is the truth. And the truth is, the DNC included “under God” in the Pledge. (I’m sure Trump will be issuing a correction posthaste.)

Maybe this year we should support a candidate who doesn’t lie as often as he exhales. That candidate is Joe Biden. Let’s give him the presidency and a Democratic Congress to work with.
