The right-wing radio host who wished for a 'nice school shooting' almost got his wish

In a plea to get the media to cover something else than the damning impeachment vote, a Denver conservative radio show host, Chuck Bonniwell, literally said on the air that he wished “a nice school shooting” would interrupt the coverage.

Right up the road is Columbine High School, site of one of the deadliest school shootings. Families of the victims were rightfully mortified, as were people in nearby Aurora, site of the movie theater massacre.  Bonniwell was fired, yet unfortunately, the radio station replaced his show with former White House aide Sebastian Gorka’s program. Gorka is so much of a gun nut that he tried to board a plane with his pistol and also had an arrest warrant on gun charges. Nice job.

Bonniwell made his remarks on Wednesday, just four days after the anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre. Maybe someone was listening because the following day this happened in Aurora:

A 15-year-old student at Hinkley High School in Aurora was arrested Thursday morning after police found a loaded gun in the waistband of his pants, according to a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department (APD).

Thankfully, an astute student saw the gun and notified police, who moved quickly before something bad happened. Usually, that is not the case. 2019 has been another awful year. There have been more mass shootings than calendar days for this year, and a school shooting every damn week.

I am not a fan of Bloomberg, but his ad has been the most powerful one yet.
