The More the World Changes the More the GOP Stays the Same

The predictability of the Republican party is as thinly veiled as the Trump presidency, made of tissue paper, and lies. The tissue, because the former President was full of it and flush with lies. At the height of Hillary Clinton’s popularity, flip-flopping Kevin McCarthy, the now House minority leader, said the Benghazi hearings were designed to bring her down. When that failed… but what about her emails. Now that President Joe Biden is effectively righting the economy by attacking the pandemic at its heart, shots in arms and money in pockets…but what about his emails. Dr. Anthony Fauci is the new recipient of the make-believe email scandal and the news media is playing along again with breathless teasing announcements of ‘Oh my; did you see this?’
As with Hillary Clinton, we have read his emails and discovered Dr. Fauci is what we thought, a consummate professional who spends too much time answering trolls and spammers. Besides the usual backbiting and strategizing, that is a part of every high-level campaign, the biggest revelation from the Clinton messages was that John Podesta makes a mean creamy Risotto. The self-serving inconsistency in the GOP governing style makes your head swirl. They back a group that believes Professional Liberals are eating babies and drinking their blood while at the same time professional Conservatives believe Matt Gaetz is being witch-hunted. They raised holy hell over Colin Kaepernick’s knee but Derick Chauvin was just doing his job.
Former President Obama was all but accused by the GOP of depraved indifference for the four deaths at Benghazi after the GOP admittedly cut security funding. This from the same GOP who is refusing to investigate an insurrection that led to the deaths of five at the citadel of our nation, the Capitol building. Mr. Obama was lambasted for his ‘ you can keep your doctor’ statement meanwhile the Republican health care replacement plan, they promised, never materialized. Our memories are too short; the Republican party throws the spaghetti against the wall and snorts and wails when asked to clean it up, then burns the French bread. The last two Democratic presidents have entered the game from the dugout on the heels of their predecessors’ strikeouts. On the contrary, the previous two GOP presidents entered office on third base.
Former President Trump praised the transparency of Chinese President Xi’s handling of the coronavirus on numerous occasions, “China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their (sic) efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!” Mr. Trump used those words on January 24 of last year. In April Mr. Trump sought to shift blame, “Had the W.H.O. [World Health Organization] done its job to get medical experts into China to objectively assess the situation on the ground and to call out China’s lack of transparency, the outbreak could have been contained at its source with very little death,” the president said Tuesday. “Instead, the W.H.O. willingly took China’s assurances to face value,” he said.
That sort of mumbled and mind-numbing gaslighting has thrown America so off-balance that millions believe there is some justification for the insurrection. So when your buddy tells you adrenochrome is the new Democratic health drink and invites you to the installation of Donald Trump in August you are justified in calling them nuts.
