The “Everything Terrible Trump Has Done So Far” Omnibus (Week 109)

As part of the ongoing project to catalog every awful thing the Trump Administration has done as a reference for future political arguments and whatever few posterity survives to see 2020, here’s everything awful the Trump Administration has done this week.

1254. A federal judge ruled the Administration had overstepped its authority by ordering law enforcement to use anti-gang money to crack down on immigration

1255. Canceled $929mn in high speed rail funding

1256. Recklessly pushed the sale of nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia over the concerns of its own experts

1257. Was sued by 16 states over its decision to declare a National Emergency in #1253

1258. Tried to seize billions of dollars in high speed rail funding from California its role in suing the administration in item #1257

1259. Ended talks with California over fuel efficiency standards

1260. Shifted resources away from border smuggling investigations towards deportations

1261. Ended visas for spouses of H1-B visa holders

This week was largely dominated by fallout from Trump’s declaration of a national emergency last week as 16 states moved to sue the administration over the action. In retaliation Trump sought to cancel billions of dollars of high speed rail subsidies to California, while at the same time talks over fuel emissions standards collapsed. Elsewhere, the administration was caught in a fresh controversy over its attempts to sell nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia.

As always, I don’t expect to catch everything, so let me know if there’s anything you think I’ve missed. The full omnibus is being maintained here (a spreadsheet version can be found here). For an overall summary, click here.
