Tap, Tap, Tap, Slide, Slide, Slide

Having now become a historical fountain of misconstrued Constitutional information, Alan Dershowitz surely borrowed a pair of tap shoes from the late dancer Gregory Hines.  In addressing the assembled Senate members for the removal of the President, following his Impeachment, Dershowitz is now seeking to moonwalk his assertion that if the President does it, it is okay.  If the president does something that he thinks will help him get elected, in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment,” said Dershowitz.

After being roundly called foolish by his colleagues and the public for his assault on the Constitution and common sense, Mr. Dershowitz has donned his water wings and is dog-paddling in  Lake Walk-back.  Dershowitz, in a convoluted and excessively explained argument in defense of himself yesterday, as reported by NPR said,   “Let me be clear once again (as I was in the Senate): a president seeking re-election cannot do anything he wants. He is not above the law. He cannot commit crimes. He cannot commit impeachable conduct.” If you are as confused as I am, raise your hand; okay put them down or you will get a cramp.

On second thought, if you are Jewish, Muslim, Caribbean, African or [Black] American or anyone not from Norway keep them up, that might help when Mr. Trump starts shooting on 5th Avenue.  Before you laugh or think that statement utterly ridiculous Mr. Trump issued a policy statement followed up by a speech stating; “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.” What does that say to the Muslims already here?  On another occasion, Mr. Trump asked, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” That time the President was referring specifically to Haiti, El Salvador and parts of Africa during a White House meeting on immigration. I deal with Africans, Haitians and people from South America every day. How does this insult speak to them?

As an African-American I have my answer to his [Trump] question of “what the hell have you got to lose;” dignity, respect, and honor, or maybe I should ask his “African-American.” I admitted to wanting to shed a tear a few days ago, not for me but for my country, and was told to hold on.

I have never held the nihilist feelings some have over the Trump administration. I continue to believe that our fate is not reliant on opposing the slick evangelical defenses put forth by Jay Sekulow or the mealy-mouthed retractions by Alan Dershowitz.  It is in the hands of the American people; by showing up at the polls, bringing like-minded friends, protesting and calling when you detect voter suppression and coming out in off-year elections for your local school board, council member, judges, and local sheriffs.

We now have proof positive that the Republicans are now a solely owned subsidiary of Donald Trump.  Any day they will show up for work wearing sandwich boards touting Trump steaks or bottled water. It is up to the Democrats to not allow America to be flushed down a golden toilet filled with Russian Vodka.
