Street protests do not resemble those of the 1960s and Portland is not like Berlin after WWI, even as Trump has constructed from DHS tactical units and DoD contractors, an actual Freikorps. The Spartacist League and the Catholic League will not be meeting in the next World Baseball Classic. Trump probably cannot name a leader of antifa.
Violent far-right agitators are dangerously emboldened by the ceaseless smears flowing from the GOP against activists who have taken on the difficult work of exposing & opposing the murderous neo-Nazis among Trump's base. https://t.co/jPXl91v7ov

It is extremely common for authoritarian states to broadly expand the definition of an activist group so that anyone they oppose can be accused of being a member, and thus be arrested and surveiled according to their invented pretext. That is what they will try to do with antifa.

It's not about antifa versus police. It's about Trump misidentifying the causes of the protests. Trump can shout all he wants that this is some sinister antifa plot, he'll lose more suburban white voters than he gains. They know what these protests are about.
