Schumer: 'Nothing is off the table' if Republicans ram through SCOTUS nominee before election

Now that’s what I like to hear. On a scale of 1 to “Donald Trump got shorted a McNugget in his lunch order,” the palpable rage is at about a 9 right now. And rising.

But this may settle my humors some.

During a Democratic Caucus call Saturday afternoon, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told his colleagues “everything Americans value is at stake” and vowed to respond if Republicans fill Ginsburg’s seat before January.

“Let me be clear: if Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans move forward with this, then nothing is off the table for next year,” Schumer declared. “Nothing is off the table.”

Does that mean my dream of packing baking soda into every Trump orifice with an old-timey cannon stuffer and forcing him to sit in a vinegar dunk tank 24/7/365 can still come true? (And since it’s my idea, I get the exclusive concession. Don’t worry, I’ll be reasonable. Maybe a buck a throw?)

Well, maybe that’s not what Schumer is talking about. But he is likely referring to nuking the filibuster and adding new SCOTUS seats to offset Mitch’s Machiavellian monkeyshines.

“Every single Senate Republican has a decision to make about what the future of the United States Senate is going to look like,” [Sen. Chris] Murphy cautioned. “I just think they’re pushing the Senate into a very different place — a place where your word means nothing, where honor means nothing, and it’s all about the power politics of here and now.”

“There cannot be one set of rules for a Republican president and one set for a Democratic president, and considering a nominee before the next inauguration would be wholly inappropriate,” the Democrats wrote.

Nice to see Schumer is showing some spine. We need it. Because this is a hill worth dying on.
