Received this e-mail yesterday from former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D. AZ) in support of Jaime Harrison’s (D. SC) U.S. Senate campaign:
I'm proud to announce that Giffords PAC has endorsed Jaime Harrison for Senate in South Carolina. He is a proven champion on gun safety, and we must help elect him in 2020.
There is so much at stake this year: We need to hold and increase the gun safety majority we elected to the House; we need to flip the Senate; and we have to elect leaders who will fight for their constituents — not the NRA.
That's why we are proud to support Jaime Harrison, a tireless ally in the fight to make our communities safer from gun violence.
South Carolina has suffered the toll of America's gun violence epidemic — and that is not lost on Jaime. In a state that has faced immense losses to both mass shootings like the one in Charleston, and to daily gun violence, it's time we have leaders that stand up to the gun lobby.
Lindsey Graham has long stood for the NRA before his constituents, and has voted over and over for legislation that makes our communities less safe. We need people like Jaime in office if we want to see our gun laws change.
Which is why we need to help elect as many gun safety champions as we can this year, so today I hope you will join me in supporting Jaime Harrison's campaign for U.S. Senate.
Every year that passes we see more and more candidates stepping up to run for office with gun safety as one of their leading issues.
2020 is no different. We are seeing candidates running from the state and local all the way up to the presidential level that are making gun safety a priority.
I'm excited to work hard with all of you this year to elect gun safety champions up and down the ballot who will be allies in our fight to end gun violence — starting with Jaime in South Carolina.
My very best,
