Today’s Quinnipiac poll finds all the better known Democratic candidates would defeat Donald Trump if the election were held today.

Joe Biden leads by 53% to 40%

  • Bernie Sanders 51%, Trump 42%
  • Kamala Harris 49%, Trump 41%
  • Elizabeth Warren 49%, Trump 42%
  • Pete Buttigieg 47%, Trump 42%
  • Cory Booker 47%, Trump 42%

The cross tabs are devastating in the Biden/Tump matchup. Biden leads with Independents by 58% to 28%. Trumps manages a 1% lead among white voters. His only good demographic is the Republican voter which he wins by 91% to 6% over Biden.

…As you may recall, Trump outperformed the final polls in 2016. Biden's currently doing at least 8 points better in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas than Clinton was in the final polls in 2016. Nationwide, Biden's doing about 5 points better against Trump than Clinton was heading into the 2016 election.

According to the New York Times, Trump has been so bothered by his recent standing in the polls against Joe Biden, he ordered his aides to lie about his own internal poll. This was even before today’s Quinnipiac University Poll was released.

After being briefed on a devastating 17-state poll conducted by his campaign pollster, Tony Fabrizio, Mr. Trump told aides to deny that his internal polling showed him trailing Mr. Biden in many of the states he needs to win, even though he is also trailing in public polls from key states like Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania. And when top-line details of the polling leaked, including numbers showing the president lagging in a cluster of critical Rust Belt states, Mr. Trump instructed aides to say publicly that other data showed him doing well.
