Background: I was thinking that in general, the country heads and ministers must develop strategies for foreign policy in the medium to long term. Are there books or resources that gives case studies on:

  1. What strategies were employed and what was the rationale behind it at the time.
  2. How did it play out after it was implemented, was it aligned with expectation, if not what went wrong.

In particular, I'm interested what constraints or realities that the decision-makers faced to have lead them to these decisions. And more generally, what are the fundamental theories for foreign policy making.
