Was there anything that could be termed “genocide” in eastern Ukraine? [duplicate]

One of Putin's stated reason's for invading Ukraine was an accusation of genocide going on against the Russian speaking inhabitants of Eastern Ukraine. It's quite easy to pass this off as just propaganda.

But even propaganda is quite often not complete fabrication, more a kind of re-sculpting of the truth, or being selective with the facts or trying to shine them in a certain light. So my question is, did anything happen that he is using as the base for this claim? Or is it completely made up?
