I have witnessed several feminist discussions that employ, with noticeably high frequency, the phrase "showing up". Yet, I have not specifically encountered any particular explanation of how the phrase has been understood in such circles, or how it came to use with such enthusiasm.

What if any, is the particular history and understanding, in a feminist context, of the English phrase "showing up"?
