The dictator and authoritarian regimes are more effective than democracies in many aspects. But I have long believed that democracy has a huge advantage in developing science and technology, which gives the democratic countries the ability to withstand the military destruction. I also long believed that prosperity itself makes a population pro-democratic.

However if I look on the development of the last 20-25 years I see rather opposite tendencies (Russia, China, USA).

So my question: do the democracies still have a chance in the 21st century, and if "yes" where is their strength?
