Given their recent actions, I think it’s the Democratic Party. Their policies closely mirror the positions of public opinion in some prominent cases:

  • 70% of americans want gun control. Democrats want gun control.
  • 70% of americans support Medicare-for-all. Democrats want Medicare for all.
  • 74% of americans support DACA. Democrats support DACA.
  • 80% of americans want abortion to remain legal. Democrats want abortion to remain legal.

Whereas republican policies don’t mirror those opinions at all. Republicans side with the NRA and oppose and even threaten violence over any attempts congress makes to enact any sort of legislation that would prevent gun violence. Republicans don’t want Medicare for all. And the vast majority of republicans express a dislike of immigrants and think they're here to leech of welfare services. And the biggest of all examples of why republicans don’t support abortion has recently taken form in the overturning of Roe v Wade.

Is it true to say that Democrats are much more in line with public opinion than Republicans or not?
