Pfizer today is asking the US Food and Drug Administration to approve its Covid-19 vaccine for 12 to 15 year old children. Currently it is approved for anyone 16 or older. This comes after its trials showed it to be 100% effective in preventing Covid in that age group. Pfizer/BioNTech said they will also seek approval in other nations. Moderna and J&J are also conducting trials for young people.

Pfizer on Friday asked the FDA for an amendment to its emergency use authorization of its Covid-19 vaccine to expand its use in people ages 12-15 in the United States.
“It’s highly likely” that the FDA will allow the expansion and could act “relatively quickly,” the acting chairman of an FDA vaccine advisory committee said.“It’s highly likely, if the data submitted support it,” said Dr. Arnold Monto, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan who is serving as acting chairman of the advisory committee for its review of the Covid-19 vaccines. “I think it could be done relatively quickly.”
Meanwhile, nearly 4 million Americans received a vaccine dose yesterday, according to the CDC. About 34.5% of all US residents have been given at least one jab. Some 44.1% of US adults have received at least one injection, and 77.4% of Americans 65 or older have gotten a shot in the arm.
We are closing on one half the US adult population with an increase of 0.8% counted as getting their first shot on Thursday.
