Oh, this is so, so sad. No one wants to come to Li’l Donnie’s clubhouse anymore.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has turned down President Trump’s invitation to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the wake of the riots last week at the U.S. Capitol.
Belichick, who has previously spoken publicly about his friendship with the president, had agreed to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor after Trump offered it over a week ago. That was before a mob of the president’s supporters laid siege to the Capitol, leaving five people dead.
Belichick’s pivot is a sharp rebuke of a president who has faced calls from Democratic lawmakers, and some Republicans, to be removed from office. His decision comes just days after Trump awarded the medal to Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best golfers of all time. Player and Sorenstam have faced criticism for associating with the president in the wake of recent events.
Leave it to Bill Belichick to deflate Trump’s balls.
I don’t much care for Belichick, who’s been MAGA from the start. He’s a great coach, but open MAGAing is beyond the pale.
But now that he’s breaking with Trump over Trump’s feckless insurrection, I guess I have to give him some props after all.
Maybe this is for the best. The way this was going, the next dude to get the Medal of Freedom was bound to be the inventor of TruckNutz. So this has stopped the bleeding, I guess.
It’s a useless medal anyway. Rush Limbaugh has one. I’d rather get an MTV Movie Award for best pie-fucking scene.
Is that still a thing? Fuck if I know. I’m so, so old.
