Received this e-mail from Governor Tom Wolf (D. PA) in support of Pennsylvania State Auditor General Eugene DePasquale’s (D. PA-10) congressional campaign:
I am proud to endorse Eugene DePasquale for Congress because he has been a great partner to me in Harrisburg. Eugene has worked tirelessly to hold government accountable to the people by going after waste, fraud, and abuse.
I know that he is the right person to send to Washington to keep fighting for the people of the Tenth Congressional District and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Eugene has a long record as a reformer. While in the state legislature, he was the first public official to post his expenses online and challenged his colleagues to do the same. When entering office as auditor general, Eugene reformed his own office by reducing administrative costs, implementing new technology, and eliminating redundancies that save taxpayers millions of dollars.
As auditor general, Eugene uncovered over $1 billion in wasteful and fraudulent spending. But Eugene has used his role not only to ensure taxpayer dollars are utilized efficiently but also to effect real change in the way government works for the people of Pennsylvania.
Eugene and I were partners in creating the Pennsylvania School Safety Task Force—a critically important effort for our kids. Our effort led to real-life improvements in keeping students, teachers, and families safe from school-based violence.
His audits have driven reforms across the state – from discovering unanswered calls at the child-abuse hotline, to uncovering a backlog of untested rape kits, to identifying loopholes in Pennsylvania’s charter school laws – and have impacted the lives of thousands of Pennsylvanians.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting Eugene by making a contribution to his competitive campaign before Monday’s FEC fundraising deadline. Eugene’s approach to tackling tough challenges makes him exactly the kind of leader we need in Washington. »
