When I came to the Senate after the 2012 election, I found a fast friend in Senator Shaheen. We’re both former Governors — and I may be biased, but I think Governors make pretty good Senators, because we’re used to thinking about how things impact all the different parts of our states.
Since then, Jeanne and I have worked on a lot of legislation together. We both have the rare honor of sitting on the Armed Services Committee and feel passionately about doing everything we can to support members of our military, veterans, and military families. I was proud to co-sponsor a bill with her that would ensure that all women servicemembers would have access to contraception without a co-pay. And last year, Jeanne and I worked together to organize a talk-a-thon from the Senate floor to protest the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history.
Long story, short: Senator Jeanne Shaheen is an incredible Senator for the people of New Hampshire and families all across America. She ought to be re-elected this November, but she’ll be facing a tough battle from the National Republican Senatorial Committee and GOP donors who are determined to replace her with a Republican.
