NH & MN-Sen: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D. NY) Refuses To Let Trump Take Down These Two Democrats
Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D. NY) in support of U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D. NH) and Tina SMith’s (D. MN) re-election campaigns:
There are only two Democratic women senators up for reelection in 2020: New Hampshire’s Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Minnesota’s Sen. Tina Smith.
And today, I need you to make a donation to support their campaigns. Here’s why:
- If we’re going to take back the Senate, we can’t afford to lose either of these seats.
- Trump lost New Hampshire by 0.5%, and Minnesota by 1.5%, in 2016. We’re kidding ourselves if we think Jeanne and Tina are safe.
I’ll tell you a little more about their races below. But first, can you chip in $5 or more to take back the Senate and protect these two progressive champions? Here’s the link: actblue.com/donate/ots_js_ts
Senator Shaheen is one of the most graceful, impressive leaders I’ve worked with in Washington. But New Hampshire’s status as a presidential battleground means this seat is a top target for Republicans.
And it gets worse: Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski just met with Trump and his staff to talk about his run for this seat. If he jumps in, we can expect him to make the race much more negative, and much more expensive.
Senator Smith’s likely opponent is former Congressman Jason Lewis, who lost his seat in 2018 after making disgusting comments disparaging women, minorities, the LGBTQ community, and people with disabilities.
We know the Trump campaign thinks it can win Minnesota—and defeat Tina—if they funnel enough dark money into the state. Tina’s a fighter for election transparency and women’s reproductive health care—we can’t afford to lose her voice, especially not to Trump’s newest “mini me.”
With gratitude,
Kirsten
