Republican Congressman Tom Reed who represents NY CD-23, the southern tier of counties in upstate New York, has just announced he will not seek re-election nor run for New York State governor. This comes after allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The district, which runs along the Pennsylvania border is rated as R +6 as it is currently drawn. Since New York will likely lose at least one congressional seat in 2022, it could be convenient to carve up this district.
Five current Republican US Senators have previously announced they will not run for re-election in 2022.
