Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D. WA) in support of Cal Cunningham (D. NC), Mark Kelly (D. AZ), and U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D. MI) campaigns:
Each and every day, Democrats are gaining momentum in the fight for control of the Senate.
In fact, theLos Angeles Timesjust reported that “Republicans fear loss of Senate control” in November as a consequence of President Trump’s “unsteady” response to the pandemic.
The article also notes that “Senate Democratic challengers far surpassed their Republican opponents in the first three months of 2020” — another clear sign that we can win this fight.
Democrats need to flip four seats this November to reclaim a Senate majority. And we’ve been getting some encouraging signs that Arizona and North Carolina can be two of those seats.
In Arizona, a brand new poll shows the Republican incumbent losing to Democrat Mark Kelly. It’s clear that voters in Arizona are ready for a proven leader who will fight for them — not more of the extreme partisanship and obstruction they’ve come to expect from the GOP.
And in North Carolina, Cal Cunningham is also leading his Republican opponent in the polls in a state that President Trump won in 2016. This is another exciting opportunity for Democrats to flip a red seat blue — and elect a public servant who will fight for North Carolina and our nation.
But we need to do more than win GOP-held seats this November — we also must come together to re-elect every Democratic Senator on the ballot this year, like Gary Peters in Michigan. We know that President Trump and the GOP will stop at nothing to win this state in 2020. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we defend Gary’s seat in this crucial Senate race.
