NC-09: As Democrats Lead In Early Voting, Trump Returning To NC To Bail Out Dan Bishop (R)

2 min read

Sorry North Carolina Kossacks, you’re getting another visit from this fucking guy:

President Donald Trump will hold a rally in Fayetteville on Sept. 9, the night before a special congressional election in the 9th District.

The Trump campaign announced the rally Tuesday, fulfilling a promise he made in a tweet last week to return to the state to campaign for Republican Dan Bishop. Trump will rally at the Fayetteville Regional Airport at 7 p.m.

Bishop faces Democrat Dan McCready and two third-party candidates in the special election. The election was called after allegations of election fraud caused state officials to nullify the election last fall. The seat has been vacant since January.

The president’s visit will cap a campaign that’s drawn other members of his family and administration.

Donald Trump Jr. is scheduled to appear with Bishop Wednesday in Monroe. Karen Pence, wife of the vice president, headlined a Charlotte fundraiser last week.

Trump’s visit could help Bishop rally the Republican base in what’s expected to be a low-turnout election.

“This is going to be a very close race and . . . come down really to the wire,” Pence told Bishop supporters last week. “This race comes down to turnout.”

Hate to say this but my Mike Pence is right about that. It is all about turnout and the GOP knows that and they are running scared because Democrats are leading in the early voting:

THE TAKE-HOME (for Aug 28): Democrats' surge continues, while Republicans sit it out

Democrats' share of all early voters is up 4 percentage points through Early Voting Day 7: from a 38.7% share at this same point in 2018 to a 42.4% share today. That improvement has so far proved to have staying power, remaining unchanged throughout this year's Early Voting. Meanwhile, Republicans' share has dropped this year by an eye-popping 5 points (a half-point improvement from Monday's update), from 34.3% in 2018 to 29.3% today, opening a huge 13 point gap in party performance (compared to a tiny 4 point gap in 2018).

It's still early days yet, and anything can happen between now and election day. But this stunning early statistic suggests that a significant number of NC09 Republicans, faced with the choice of voting for either a Democrat or yet another trump enabler, are voting instead with their butts, by sitting this one out. Meanwhile, Democrats are fired up and eager to vote. That's a perfect storm for Republican candidate Dan Bishop, who can't let go of the tiger's tail (his full-throated allegiance to Trump) at this late date, even though it's killing him at the ballot box.

Let’s not take anything for granted and let’s get an early start to the next Blue Wave. Click here to donate and get involved with Dan McCready’s (D. NC-09) campaign.
