'Nation' reporter slaps Newt Gingrich silly over history of slavery

First of all, Daily Kos’ Denise Oliver Velez has a great rundown of The New York Times’ 1619 Project right here. So go read that after your eyes are done adjusting from the supernova explosion in Newt Gingrich’s shorts, courtesy of The Nation’s sports editor (oh, yeah, The Nation covers sports for some reason), Dave Zirin:

By the way, Newt Gingrich was once a history professor, and he’s written extensively on the subject. Which just goes to show that history really is written by the whiners.

Not sure what Gingrich’s problem is with the 1619 Project — which “plac[es] the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.” Except maybe that it doesn’t place the usual suspects — i.e., gray-haired, blotchy-skinned white men — on a pedestal.

Apparently, that’s too much for Snowflake Newt to handle.

But, seriously, settle in for a spell and read DOV’s great piece on this. You won’t be sorry.
