I was so excited when President Joe Biden nominated Congresswoman Deb Haaland (D-NM) for Interior Secretary. The Congresswoman is the first Native American to serve as a Presidential Cabinet member.

Congresswoman Haaland said she is very Progressive and won on those tenets. She said she received votes from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. She wanted to make it clear she supported both the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.

I must admit, I was really impressed with the Congresswoman. She is an unapologetic Progressive who will stick to her moral position.

This passage from her website is probative.

I am a 35th Generation New Mexican, an enrolled citizen of the Pueblo of Laguna, and one of the first two Native American Women elected to Congress.

I grew up in a military family; my father was a 30-year combat Marine who was awarded the Silver Star Medal during Vietnam and my mother was in the Navy. In 2018 I ran for Congress to give a voice to those that had never had one. I’ve lived the struggles of every day New Mexicans and I understand that we need a fierce advocate who will fight for our working families, our LGBTQ+ community, our students, our veterans, and our seniors.

In Congress, I’ve served on the Armed Services Committee and am the Vice-Chair of Natural Resources Committees. I know just how important it is we address climate change. It’s why I’m serving on Vice President Biden’s Climate Engagement council and am a member of the Global Steering Committee for the Campaign for Nature.

I was impressed with Congresswoman Haaland. I am sure she will be one of our Progressive heroes in the cabinet.

My books, It’s Worth It: How to Talk To Your Right-Wing Relatives, Friends, and Neighbors” & “As I See It: Class Warfare: The Only Resort To Right Wing Doom” support  (1)  communication techniques &  (2) Progressive message delivery.
