MS-Sen: DFA Goes All In To Help Mike Espy (D) Pull Off A Doug Jones-Style Victory

Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America in support of Mike Espy’s (D. MS) U.S. Senate campaign:

Did you see this over the weekend?

Mississippi GOP Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith made an appalling “joke” while campaigning: “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row.”

In a state with one of the highest numbers of recorded public lynchings in the country, there’s nothing funny about this abhorrent comment.

Fortunately, we have an opportunity to reject this GOP incumbent's racism and elect a progressive, Black senator in Mississippi later this month. Sen. Hyde-Smith is running against DFA-endorsed Democratic candidate Mike Espy in a November 27th runoff. If we can mobilize young people, people of color and progressives in Mississippi, this race could be within our reach.

Will you chip in $3 or more to help Mike Espy’s campaign expand the electorate in these next two weeks before Mississippi voters head to the polls again to choose their next senator?

This may be a long-shot race. But so was Doug Jones’s U.S. Senate race in Alabama last year. When Republicans show the electorate who they are — as right-wing conservative and alleged sexual predator Roy Moore did with his despicably racist, Islamophobic, and misogynistic comments — they can change the electoral landscape and give strong Democratic candidates a chance.

Like the 2017 Alabama Senate race, this runoff in Mississippi is a chance for Americans to reject morally reprehensible behavior by the GOP, and elect leaders like Mike Espy who will truly represent them and their values.

In just two short weeks, we have the chance to kick Cindy Hyde-Smith out of the Senate and elect a progressive Democrat who will fight for the health care, education, voting rights, and dignity of every Mississippian.

Let's rise above the hatred and racism of the GOP: Chip in $3 or more to help fuel Mike Espy’s race for U.S. Senate in Mississippi before the November 27th runoff.

If we fight hard enough over the next couple weeks, we can flip this Senate seat from red to blue and defend our values in Mississippi.
