MoveOn Members in IL-14 Endorse Lauren Underwood for Congress

3 min read

ILLINOIS — MoveOn Political Action members in Illinois’ 14th congressional district have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Lauren Underwood for Congress, with 98% of votes cast in favor of backing Underwood.

A native of Naperville, Underwood is registered nurse, with hands-on experience in America’s healthcare industry. She was appointed by President Obama to serve as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where she helped implement the Affordable Care Act, broadening access for those on Medicare, improving healthcare quality and reforming private insurance.

“Lauren knows first-hand the real-life importance of quality, affordable health care for working families and their children, both from her career in health care and as an American with a pre-existing condition” said Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn. “A native of Naperville, Lauren has worked to expand access, most recently working with a Medicaid plan in Chicago to ensure that it provided high-quality, cost-efficient care. When Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren voted to take away health care from millions of Americans, Lauren stepped up—and Illinois’ 14th District residents need her fighting for them in Washington.”

MoveOn will mobilize its more than 12,000 members in IL-14 to volunteer for Underwood.

Here’s what a few MoveOn members in the district had to say about Underwood:

“Lauren will fight for the constituents in our district. I’ve met her. She’s intelligent, articulate, and knows the issues. Her federal government experience is a plus. Lauren is also one to teach across the aisle to solve problems. She will work hard and listen to IL14. She’s awesome!!” –Sandra, Crystal Lake, IL

“I am the local chapter lead for moms demand action in our area and Lauren has been a member of our group since we started in January 2018. She is smart, dedicated and tireless. We have a chance with Lauren to unseat Randy Hultgren who Is a trump rubber stamp. Lauren can do it!!!” –Ellen, St. Charles, IL

“Because she represents ME, an intelligent, humane, forward-thinking American woman.” –Nancy, Huntley, IL

This year, MoveOn members will lead a march to the ballot box—channeling grassroots Resistance energy into winning key races. MoveOn members are planning to make endorsements in more than 100 House districts, working to put dozens of new seats in play, unseating Republican incumbents, and electing diverse, progressive candidates who will work to represent the interests of their constituents. MoveOn’s Resist & Win election program includes mobilizing and training grassroots activists, break new ground in digital persuasion, shaping the narrative, and fundraising directly for champions.

Elizabeth Warren’s (MA) reelection. In 2016, MoveOn members raised $1.2 million for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, mobilized volunteers, and ran ads in support of endorsed candidates.
