Received this e-mail today from former presidential candidate, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D. IN), in support of U.S. Senator Tina Smith’s (D. MN) re-election campaign:
Today, Mike Pence lands in Minnesota for a campaign rally in Duluth.
Minnesota is a top target for Republicans this election. Donald Trump only lost the state by 1.5 points in 2016. But Minnesota is a must-win state for Democrats in order to take back the Senate and win the White House.
Before Mike Pence lands in Minnesota, can you chip in $5 to make sure we have the resources to re-elect Senator Tina Smith and stop Trump from flipping Minnesota red? We need to raise $10,000 before his event at noon.
As a fellow Hoosier, I have always made it clear that Mike Pence doesn’t represent the best of my state or the best of our country. I have seen firsthand the impact of Mike Pence’s dangerous policies as Governor of Indiana and now as Vice President of the United States. And I am committed to doing everything possible to make sure he is out of a job this November.
That’s why I am urging you to give $5 today to support the re-election of Senator Tina Smith. This race was just moved from “Lean Democrat” to “Toss-up,” and Donald Trump and Mike Pence have made winning Minnesota a key part of their path to victory.
Donald Trump was just campaigning in Minnesota last week and Pence has made Minnesota his first stop on his post-convention campaign tour. Can you chip in anything you can right now to re-elect Senator Tina Smith and stop Trump?
In order to win the era, we need to take back the Senate and win the White House. That’s only going to happen if we can protect Tina’s Senate seat in Minnesota. Please be generous if you can.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to this fight.
— Pete Buttigieg
