Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D. MA) in support of Gretchen Whitmer’s (D. MI) gubernatorial campaign:
I don't need to tell you why it's important that we elect Gretchen Whitmer to be Michigan's next governor. You already know that, as a leader in the state legislature, Gretchen stood up for students, workers, and middle-class families — and that we can count on her to bring that leadership to the governor's office.
Gretchen is ready to fight for all Michiganders by reinvesting in Michigan's public schools, protecting workers' rights, and continuing to expand access to affordable health care.
But you also know why this race is such a tough fight. Gretchen's Republican opponent has the backing of dark money special interests — including the Koch brothers and the DeVos family — who have already spent millions in the Michigan governor's race. And they won't stop until they buy this election.
At the end of the day, this is a choice between two futures for Michigan. In one, Gretchen gets to work and builds better public schools, a stronger economy, and a health care system that makes sure every family can get the care they need.
In the other, it's the Koch brothers and the other special interests who get their way in Lansing — and it's Michigan families who get left behind.
We know what that could mean because we've seen that approach to “leadership.” We know it's the wrong path. And we know that Gretchen would take Michigan on a better one.
