Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D. NY) in support of Sara Gideon’s (D. ME) U.S. Senate campaign:

Every senator swore an oath to be impartial at the start of the Senate impeachment trial. It’s one I take seriously, and I would hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle do as well.

Yet Mitch McConnell—with the support of Senate Republicans—has rushed this process through in the dead of night, shutting down every effort to ensure a fair trial and refusing to admit witnesses or relevant evidence.

This isn’t a trial. It’s a cover-up.

Whatever the outcome of the Senate’s impeachment trial, one thing is absolutely clear: We must take back the Senate—and end McConnell’s stranglehold on Washington—by electing bold, principled leaders who will fight for our values, not cower under political pressure.

That starts by electing Sara Gideon to the Senate in Maine.

Sara is the daughter of an immigrant and Speaker of the Maine House. She’s a fierce defender of women’s reproductive freedoms, and has led Maine’s fight to combat the opioid epidemic. A fresh, dynamic leader who knows how to work across the aisle to deliver results is exactly what we need in Washington.

And this is a race we can win! In 2018, Maine Democrats defeated an incumbent U.S. House member and turned the governors’ mansion blue.

Let’s flip this seat and take back the Senate. Click here to contribute to Sara’s campaign today.

Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are betting on Americans failing to hold them accountable this November.

Let’s prove them wrong.

Thank you,
Kirsten
