MA & VT-Sen: DFA Joins Elizabeth Warren (D) & Bernie Sanders Call To Expand Social Security

2 min read

Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America:

DFA members have been on the forefront of the fight to expand Social Security for years.

This week, that fight took a HUGE step forward:

Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren are starting an official Expand Social Security Caucus in Congress, and you can become an early citizen-member now! Click here to sign up.

At a time when the Trump administration is attacking the social safety net left and right, it has never been more important to stand up for not only maintaining, but expanding SocialSecurity so that all seniors can enjoy a dignified retirement.

Despite the repeated Wall Street-funded lies that try and convince us that Social Security is going broke, the reality is that Social Security has a $2.9 trillion surplus, can pay out ALL benefits owed for decades, and can pay increased benefits for decades more if the wealthy simply pay the same rate into Social Security as the rest of us.

The spectacular success of Social Security is exactly what makes it an attractive target for right-wing politicians. Right now, Trump's allies in the House are plotting to pass a second multi-trillion dollar tax cut for the rich — and they're hinting that they'll pay for part of it by attacking Social Security.

Not on our watch. Democracy for America is strongly backing the Expand Social Security Caucus because we believe that caring for our seniors is a moral issue, not just a pocketbook one.

Will you sign up to be a founding citizen-member of this ground-breaking caucus now?

Thanks for fighting to expand Social Security.
