Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D. WA) in support of Dr. Barbara Bollier (D. KS), Theresa Greenfield (D. IA) and former Governor John Hickenlooper’s (D. CO) U.S. Senate campaigns:
CNN:“Democrats are slight favorites for Senate control”
POLITICO:“Democrats’ momentum puts Senate majority in play”
WASHINGTON POST:“Democrats see Senate suddenly in reach”
Political experts agree: Democrats can absolutely take back the Senate in November.
But in order to win a Democratic majority, we need to flip at least four Republican seats. That’s why our Sprint to 2020 program is so critical — because we will only flip the Senate if we all stand together and help get our Democratic candidates over the finish line.
There are some incredible Democrats running all across the country, but today I want to tell you about three candidates who are ahead in the polls and are working to flip must-win seats: Barbara Bollier in Kansas, Theresa Greenfield in Iowa, and John Hickenlooper in Colorado.
In Kansas, a GOP Senator is retiring — meaning an open seat and a surprisingly competitive race. Republicans are likely to nominate extreme conservative Kris Kobach, who previously ran for governor in 2018 and lost to a Democrat. Now, a new poll of Kansas voters shows that the Democratic candidate, Barbara Bollier, is ahead of Kobach by two points. Barbara has the momentum in this race — but she needs our help to keep it going now through November.
Theresa Greenfield (D. IA)
In Iowa, a new poll shows Democrat Theresa Greenfield neck-and-neck with the Republican incumbent. Reuters says this is one of “the key races that will likely determine control of the U.S. Senate” this November — and with the GOP’s lead evaporating, this race is an exciting opportunity for Democrats to flip a red seat blue if we continue to stand with Theresa in the fight.
John Hickenlooper (D. CO)
And in Colorado, former Governor John Hickenlooper is mounting a serious challenge to the GOP incumbent. Recent polls show that John has a huge lead — but the Republicans are planning to do whatever it takes to defend this seat. Colorado has already elected a Democratic governor and state legislature, along with a Democratic U.S. Senator. And in 2020, this state is one of our best opportunities to pick up another Democratic seat and build our Senate majority.
