IL-03: DFA & PCCC Refuse To Let The DCCC Stop Marie Newman (D) From Defeating A Blue Dog Dem

Received two e-mails in support of Marie Newman’s (D. IL-03) congressional campaign. First from Democracy for America:

This is URGENT.

POLITICO just reported that progressive House challenger Marie Newman’s campaign is being dramatically impacted by the new policy the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (or DCCC) implemented in order to shut down primaries.

We can’t let the DCCC push Marie out of this important race to replace one of the worst Democrats in Congress with a real progressive.

Last November, DFA members from across the country rallied behind Marie’s fight to topple anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, and anti-immigrant Democratic incumbent Dan Lipinski in the race for Illinois’ 3rd congressional district — and she came within 2 points of defeating him.

Now, Marie is stepping up and giving it another shot. But the DCCC is doing everything they can to keep her campaign from taking off. Their new policy, which effectively creates a blacklist for any consultant or vendor who works with primary challengers like Marie, is making it harder for her to find the help she needs.

Here's what Marie told POLITICO this morning: 

“I've had four consultants leave the campaign. We've now had two mail firms say that they couldn't work with us because of the DCCC issue, and then a [communications] group, a compliance group and several pollsters.”

It’s unacceptable that the DCCC is trying to put their finger on the scale in primaries like this one. Let’s show them that grassroots progressives are ready to fight back.

Marie put it perfectly when she tweeted, “We deserve a representative who will vote like a real Democrat in Congress — not someone who routinely sides with Trump and conservative interest groups over his own constituents.”

The DCCC may be satisfied to keep Trump allies like Dan Lipinski in Congress as long as they are willing to put a “D” next to their name. But we’re going to keep fighting for a more progressive House that stands up for working families — not billionaires, and definitely not Donald Trump.

We just learned that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee forced two political consultants to quit progressive Marie Newman's primary campaign against Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) — one of the most conservative, anti-choice, anti-Obamacare, pro-Wall Street Dems in the House.

This is the nightmare scenario progressives have been warning about since the DCCC announced their blacklist policy earlier this year. The DCCC’s new rule tells talented consultants that if you want to flip red seats blue AND work for the next AOC, Ayanna Pressley, or Ro Khanna — all of whom defeated incumbent Democrats — thanks, but no thanks.

The best way to fight the DCCC's election-losing blacklist policy is to make it backfire by STRENGTHENING progressive challengers the DCCC tries to hobble.

As co-chair of the Pro-Life Caucus, a tool of Wall Street, and an opponent of Obamacare, Dan Lipinski is the epitome of an out-dated, out-of-touch Democrat that the DCCC shouldn’t be sticking its neck out to protect. He was the only House Democrat who chose not to co-sponsor a recent comprehensive LGBTQ civil rights bill.

The Illinois 3rd is a bright blue district that hasn't elected a Republican in 45 years. Hillary Clinton won it by 15 points!

Last year, 49% of primary voters in the district voted for Marie Newman. Now, she's running to finish the job, and the DCCC is trying to block consultants who want to help put a real Democrat in this seat.

Together, we can show the DCCC that shielding incumbents who call themselves Democrats but act like Republicans won't fly with the grassroots. Democrats should ACT like Democrats — or they should be replaced by people who will advance our agenda, not sabotage it.
