IL-03: DFA Fights Back Against THe DCCC's Efforts To Stop Marie Newman (D) From Unseating A Blue Dog

Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America in support of Marie Newman’s (D. IL-03) campaign:

The DCCC is trying to push a progressive candidate out of a primary against one of the worst Democrats in Congress. Can you chip in to Marie Newman's campaign and DFA today so we can fight back?

“Progressive groups are coming to the aid of Marie Newman after at least four consultants dropped her campaign under pressure from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s new policy to cut off vendors working with primary challengers.”

That's how online news publication The Intercept kicked off their urgent reporting yesterday on Democracy for America's decision to make an emergency endorsement of Marie's campaign after we learned about the impact of the DCCC's undemocratic policies.

The DCCC's blacklisting policy has already cost Marie's campaign money, time and resources. And she's facing a tough battle against not only her opponent, but against key parts of the Democratic establishment.

We're standing with Marie because we think it's wrong for the DCCC to play favorites in primaries, period. But it's especially insidious when the establishment goes to bat for a House member who stands with Trump more often than not.

Let’s be clear: Dan Lipinski is a terrible Democrat who makes our party weaker. He voted against the Affordable Care Act, voted against the DREAM act, voted against discrimination protections for LGBT people, and opposes reproductive rights.

None of this would be shocking if he were a Republican, but Dan Lipinski is a Democrat representing a House district Bernie Sanders won in 2016 by 8 points. It's exactly the kind of district where open primaries can best serve not only the interests of our constituents, but of the party as a whole.
