Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr. (D. PA) in support of Jon Ossoff (D. GA) and Rev. Raphael Warnock’s (D. GA) U.S. Senate campaigns:
What we saw in Georgia's primary election this month was an assault on our democracy.
Voters were faced to wait in line for hours — and many were turned away because polling places ran out of ballots or voting machines broke down. Black and Democratic voters were often the hardest hit.
This could be just the first taste of what we see in November — especially in a state like Georgia with a long history of voter suppression. Both of Georgia's U.S. Senate seats are up for grabs this year, and Republican leaders are terrified that Democrats Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff could flip the Senate blue.
Reverend Raphael Warnock has been serving his parishioners at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s former church in Atlanta and leading his community through this crisis. He's long been a vocal advocate for ensuring every American has health care, working to stop climate change, and registering new voters across Georgia.
Jon Ossoff was recently called a “warrior against corruption” by Stacey Abrams. He's an investigative journalist and small business owner, and a former national security aide to Congress, where he drafted legislation to stop mass surveillance, nuclear weapons proliferation, and abuse by federal contractors.
Meanwhile, Raphael and Jon's opponents, Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, have been busy in the Senate supporting the President's lawsuit to gut the ACA and strip protections from people with pre-existing conditions; voting to pack the federal courts with unqualified judges; and pushing a legislative agenda that helps big corporations at the expense of working families and people like you.
Helping Raphael and Jon win isn't just a critical part of our work to flip the U.S. Senate — it's a chance to elect two true community leaders who will never stop fighting for their constituents and children and families across the country. But Raphael and Jon need your support before Tuesday's public FEC fundraising deadline.
