GA-Sen A & B: NARAL Endorses Both Jon Ossoff (D) & Rev. Raphael Warnock (D) For U.S. Senate

3 min read

Some more big news today out of Georgia:

Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock won the endorsement Thursday of NARAL Pro-Choice, the influential abortion rights group, in their bids to unseat Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.

The advocacy group said the two Democrats will help fight new abortion restrictions in the U.S. Senate and vote to confirm Supreme Court justices who are committed to upholding the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Ilyse Hogue, the group’s president, called Loeffler and Perdue “rubber stamps” for President Donald Trump’s push to appoint conservative judges who back new abortion limits.

“Their days betraying the values of Georgians are numbered,” said Hogue. “The message we’re sending to these senators is clear:When you come for our rights, we come for your seats.”

FYI, Ossoff is out with his first official campaign ad:

The 30-second spot released Thursday focuses on his background as the owner of a firm that’s produced dozens of investigative journalism documentaries – and links that work to challenges confronting the U.S. Senate in Congress.

“We’ve exposed sexual slavery by ISIS, crooked judges, child trafficking and bribery,” said Ossoff. “Truth is, corruption is why politicians let health insurance companies rip off our families and polluters poison our air and water.”

He closes: “Fighting corruption is my job and it’s what I’ll do as your senator. It’s why I refuse donations from corporate PACs and why I approve this message.”

And Warnock recently sat down with The Root to discuss how Trump has effected his faith:

Now, Warnock is campaigning against her to fill that seat with current polls showing him as the top Democratic contender in a race with 20 other candidates of both parties. If no one garners more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two contenders will face each other in a runoff in January 2021. Rep. Doug Collins, a key Trump ally, is the other top Republican in the race.

Warnock talked to The Root about how his Christian faith informs his politics around healthcare, policing, Trump the LGBTQ+ community, which he fully supports and says the church should as well, and his views around women’s reproductive rights, which he says she be protected.
